Wiveliscombe

Know affectionately by the locals as ‘Wivey’.  Situated at the foot of the Brendon Hills, the gateway to Exmoor, ‘Wivey’ is a thriving centre 4 miles from The Cottage Beyond.  There are numerous shops, many still with their Victorian frontages, whilst the pubs stock ales from the town’s two breweries and there are several great places for tea, coffee or lunches.  There is the Co-op supermarket, an excellent butchers (Thorne’s), a post office, pharmacy, a chocolatier, and the popular Wivey Larder that’s packed with all sorts of tempting local produce. You’ll find plenty to interest you if you like antiques and interiors, and there are some very charming gift shops and galleries.  Our favourite browsing spots are The Carousel Pig and the Courthouse as well as visiting the weekly Farmers Market (every Saturday).  Although small, population of about 3,000, it packs a punch!  With easy parking you can access all you need quickly but at the same time if you’ve time to mooch there is so much to see. ‘Wivey’ even has it’s own radio station and open-air pool.
