Milverton

One of the largest villages in Somerset just 4 miles away from The Cottage Beyond. It has an excellent general groceries shop (Milverton Stores -  Village store with great range of fresh foods, in-store bakery, local produce, off-licence and much much more.  Open 7.30am - 9pm) and the Globe Inn (Somerset Life’s gastro pub of 2014 and AA Rosette for culinary excellence). The name Milverton is believed to come from the Old English and mean settlement at the mill ford.  Historical evidence tells of Milverton’s prominence at various times.  In the Domesday Book of 1086 it was a substantial place with one of only seven recorded markets in the whole of Somerset. It’s well worth exploring for its many fine Georgian buildings and its medieval street pattern around the church, which is on a central prominence.
